My rankings are based off of (in order of importance): overall winning, wins vs. Top 10 teams, wins vs. Top 25 teams, strength of schedule, wins on the road, losses at home, strength of teams lost to.
The rankings take bits and pieces from the outside but also from the inside, meaning media polls and my own formula. They also use the past and present in the strength of schedule category. These elements of my rankings, I think, make it very accurate.
